Description
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen has been carefully crafted by Master Blender Jim Beveridge and his small team of passionate blenders using eight handpicked whiskies from the four corners of Scotland, including three irreplaceable ?ghost whiskies?
and five incredibly rare malt expressions, from the Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves, all of which are at least 20 years old.
Johnnie Walker Blue label Ghost and Rare releases are a series of limited editions that explore the rich flavours and distinctive distillery characters of selected whiskies from the unparalleled Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves.
At the heart of this limited edition lies the much sought-after Islay single malt, PORT ELLEN - a "Ghost" distillery that shut its doors in 1983. Sitting low on the water edge of Kilnaughton Bay, watched over by the four sided Carraig Fhada Lighthouse and the occasional ethereal glow of the Northern Lights, the Port Ellen distillery is now silent.
Whilst the Port Ellen stock brings a distinctive maritime smokiness that lingers in the long and warming finish, its unique character is magnified by a selection of remarkable casks from the Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves. First the "Ghost" grain distilleries of Caledonian and Carsebridge add layers of creamy, vanilla sweetness, then the rare malt whiskies from the great distilleries of Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol and Oban deliver breaking waves of waxy citrus, rich malt and tropical fruit flavours.
